Axalta Strengthens its Commitment to Promoting Diversity in Mexico at the Women’s Economic Forum Iberoamerica 2020
“Women of High Impact” program was created in 2019 to empower women at Axalta in Mexico

MEXICO CITY – AUG. 28, 2020 Axalta (NYSE: AXTA), a leading global supplier of liquid and powder coatings, participated in the Women’s Economic Forum (WEF) Iberoamerica 2020, a prestigious international event promoting women’s empowerment. During the forum, Axalta emphasized the importance of creating programs that support women in their professional and personal development.

According to the 2017 Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) report ‘The Pursuit of Gender Equality: An Uphill Battle,’ Mexico continues to have one of the largest gender employment gaps in the OECD with harmful consequences on economic growth. Also, Mexico currently ranks near the bottom of the “Women in Work” index (32 of 33 total countries surveyed) developed by PricewaterhouseCoopers, which analyzes the economic empowerment of women in OECD countries. Axalta Mexico is committed to reversing this trend; programs such as Axalta’s Women of High Impact will help jumpstart this reversal.

During her keynote speech entitled “Axalta Women of High Impact: Painting the Change,”  Veronica Luna, Global Procurement Manager at Axalta in Mexico said, “Companies must promote the creation of programs to increase team diversity and provide the necessary tools for women to expand their knowledge and continue to grow professionally and personally.”

The goal of Axalta’s Women of High Impact program – Axalta Mujeres de Alto Impacto (AMAI) in Spanish – is to empower and support women at Axalta. Established in 2019, the program has more than 100 active members and focuses on three areas: life balance, leadership and mentoring. A small – yet diverse – steering committee is responsible for advancing the program’s vision and managing activities and programming such as employee development activities and workshops, as well as mentoring programs.

“A diverse workforce leads to more innovation and business growth and helps attract and retain top talent,” said Daniel Salcido, President of Axalta Mexico. “Axalta Women of High Impact is a fantastic program that demonstrates Axalta's commitment to diversity. We are proud of what this talented group of women have created, and we are excited to see it grow.”

In 2019, AMAI received the “Exceptional Women of Excellence” award from the Women’s Economic Forum for its efforts to generate a favorable working environment and foster a culture of diversity and inclusion within the company.
